In the variability maps, a variability in the direction of the lines is retrieved in area 3 (extremities of central sulci) by CDR and not by PLC. The covariance matrices in this region show that the variability is mainly longitudinal. Since, in PLC method, large tensors at the endpoints of the sulcal lines are removed before the extrapolation, the variability in the direction of the lines is missed and the total variability is unreasonably small.
