Mice lacking the p50 subunit of NF-κB show prolonged shedding of bacteria in stools, suggesting a reduced ability to clear C. rodentium infection. In vivo colonization and clearance dynamics were monitored in p50+/+ control (closed circles) and p50−/− (open circles) mice during C. rodentium infection by measuring bacterial viable counts recovered from stool. Mice lacking p50 shed significantly (P < 0.05) more bacteria than control mice from day 10 p.i. onward. The error bars indicate standard deviations.
