Strains used include DRH665 (81–176 SmR ΔastA flaB::astA), DRH939 (81–176 SmR ΔastA ΔflgS flaB::astA), and the non-motile variants DRH665 5W2, DRH665 5W6, and DRH665 10W1 and their associated in vitro-isolated revertants.
