Cells were grown in R Media without added NaHCO₃ under 5% CO₂ at 37°C to OD₆₀₀ = 0.4. NaH¹⁴CO₃ was added at time 0 and cell samples collected at times indicated. H¹⁴CO₃ ⁻ uptake was determined by ¹⁴C accumulation in cells as measured by liquid scintillation counting; -▪- parental 34F2 strain, -•- 34F2ΔBAS2714-12 strain. Data was obtained from 3 independent cultures and error bars represent standard deviation from the mean.
