The glucose uptake rate was determined with strains of B. animalis subsp. lactis grown to mid-log phase in either LL or LG broth. Glucose uptake assays were performed in 0.05 M potassium phosphate buffer (pH 7.5) with 5 mM NaCl and 1 mM glucose. Values represent the means of duplicate assays ± standard deviations.
