Microbicial activities of BTDs. Synthetic BTDs were incubated with 2 × 10⁶ CFU of each organism for 2 h at 37°C using two buffering conditions, 10 mM PIPES (pH 7.4) and 5 mM glucose (left panels) or 10 mM Tris-HCl (pH 7.4) and 5 mM glucose (right panels). The numbers of CFU were determined after the plates were incubated at 37°C for 18 to 24 h. The limit of detection (1 colony/plate) was equal to 1 × 10³ CFU/ml in the incubation mixture.
