Log10 geometric mean colony count per gram of tissue ± standard error obtained for three chickens. Groups of 21 chicks were inoculated when they were 7 days old with S. enterica serovar Typhimurium χ8879 (ΔsptP1033::xylE ΔasdA16 ΔphoP233) harboring plasmid pYA3870 or pYA4157 or with S. enterica serovar Typhimurium χ9242 (ΔphoP233 ΔasdA16 ΔaraBAD23 ΔrelA198::araC PBAD lacI TT) harboring pYA4184.
The numbers in parentheses are the numbers of chicks with less than 10 CFU/g of tissue.
