Figure 1

Distribution of Ki67 nuclear antigen in blood and lymph node CD4 and CD8 T lymphocyte subsets. (A) Percentage of Ki67+CD4+ and Ki67+CD8+ T lymphocytes in blood and lymph node of HIV-negative (n = 15) and HIV-infected (n = 73) subjects before HAART. (B) Estimates of the number of Ki67+CD4+ and Ki67+CD8+ T lymphocytes per microliter of blood in HIV-negative and HIV-infected subjects before HAART. (C) Estimates of the total number (blood plus lymph node) of Ki67+CD4+ and Ki67+CD8+ T lymphocytes in HIV-negative and HIV-infected subjects. The fractions of proliferating CD4 and CD8 T lymphocytes in blood and lymph node were determined as described in Methods, and differences in the means between HIV-negative and HIV-positive subjects were compared by the F test and Student's t test after taking the logarithm of the data.
