The α1-α2-binding domains of chicken MHC (yellow) (50), human HLA-E (orange), and hCD1a (green) were superimposed onto the α1-α2 domain of chCD1–2 (blue). Distances between the protein backbone of the α1 and α2 helices of human CD1a and chCD1–2 at the center of the groove are indicated. The chCD1–2 groove is substantially narrower than that of hCD1.
