Established risk factors
  • Advanced age (>70 years)

  • History of ulcer

  • Concomitant use of steroids

  • Higher doses, use of more than one NSAID

  • Concomitant use of anticoagulants

  • Serious systemic disorder

Probable risk factors
  • Infection with Helicobacter pylori

  • Cigarette smoking

  • Consumption of alcohol
