Expression was assessed by Affymetrix HG U133 Plus 2.0 microarray; listed are all apoptotic cell removal receptor genes considered “expressed” based on the criteria of % present in ≥ 50% samples of either normal nonsmokers or normal smokers. MERTK (in boldface) was the only apoptotic receptor most significantly up-regulated in smokers compared with nonsmokers.
