During learning, activity in right perirhinal cortex (R PRC), left hippocampus (L H), and right hippocampus (R H) varied as a function of the subsequent old/new confidence rating (1–6). The cluster in the right hippocampus extended posteriorly into parahippocampal cortex. The same pattern of activation (inset) was observed in an overlapping region of the right perirhinal cortex when the analysis was restricted to confidence ratings 1–5 as in the study by Ranganath et al.
