The levels of virulence of the 12 strains in 14-day-old chick embryos were assessed as previously described (28). Virulence A means infection of chick embryos resulted in 100% mortality within 3 days. Virulence B means infection of chick embryos resulted in 80% mortality in more than 3 days. CLIP stands for Collection Listeria Institut Pasteur.
H2, H12, H28, and H38, strains referenced by Olier et al. (28).
