The groups included the following numbers of mice that were mock-treated or treated with triamcinolone, respectively: wt RSV, 5 and 4; mG RSV, 5 and 4; and mock-infected, 3 and 3. In the wt RSV/triamcinolone group, one mouse was found dead on day 4, and the mean titer was calculated based on three mice. In the no-triamcinolone treatment group, significant differences for the wt RSV-infected mice compared to the mG RSV-infected mice were observed on days 1, 2, and 3; in the triamcinolone treatment group, a significant difference was observed on day 3 only (indicated with asterisks). Similar data were obtained in a separate independent experiment (not shown).
