Comparison among Dembo, Bell, and two-pathway models of receptor-ligand binding. Average translational velocities (A), average bond lifetimes (B), and numbers of stressed bonds (C) of modeled PMNs subjected to uniform levels of shear (10–100 s−1) were calculated using the three different kinetic models. In these simulations, the P-selectin site density on the substrate was 15 molecules/μm2, and the membrane stiffness of modeled cells bearing deformable microvilli was 3 dyn/cm. Data represent means ± SE except for bond lifetimes, which are expressed as means ± SD, from 3 independent simulations.
