Cell-cell contact stimulates the RhoA signaling pathway, which increases assembly of the actin cytoskeleton in individual cells, triggering increased proliferation. As cell-cell contact increases, the degree of cell contact with the extracellular matrix (ECM) may be decreased, thereby downregulating proliferation.
