Axonal mechanical sensitivity is induced by nerve inflammation. The sciatic nerve is depicted in the middle of the image, with the shaded oval area indicating CFA-induced inflammation. The individual neurons lead to receptive fields in muscle or skin (right and top), and centrally to dorsal roots (left), for recording.
