Electron micrographs illustrating labeled cortical terminals synapsing (arrowheads) onto thin dendrites (marked by asterisks and colored yellow, pink, blue and green). Fine dendritic “hairs” penetrate the cortical endings (arrows in B and C). A mossy fiber (mf) is clutched by a granule cell claw (C) and the claw is in turn postsynaptic to a cortical terminal.
