RNA is exported through the TAP/NXF1 pathway during HSV-1 infection. HeLa cells were transfected with plasmids encoding GFP, GFP-TAP, or GFP-TAPΔC. Twenty-four hours later, cells were infected with wild-type HSV-1 for 8 h. Right panels: at 7 h after infection, actinomycin D was added to infected cells to stall transcription and cells were fixed 1 h later. In situ hybridization was performed with a biotinylated oligo(dT) probe as described in Materials and Methods.
