All of the peptides were synthesized with an attached lipophilic group, palmitic acid, for cell penetration. SOCS1-KIR2A and Tkip2A are alanine substitution-containing mutant forms of SOCS1-KIR and Tkip, respectively, that do not show any biological activity. IFN-γ(95-106) is a truncated form of IFN-γ(95-132) and lacks any biological activity. The SOCS5-KIR sequence is presented for comparison with the Tkip sequence. Identical residues in SOCS5-KIR and Tkip, as described by Nicholson and colleagues (11), are in boldface type.
