Instructions for the use of Hemosafe® (following logging in with user name and password)

Loading the fridge with units of blood
  • -The person in charge of the refrigerated blood store physically enters the bags:
    • -Select ENTER.
    • -In the window that opens, read the CDM and EMC/BAG/USEcodes of the bag with the scanner. Click on SEARCH. The menu shows ENTER and, after a few seconds, the door of the fridge can be opened.
    • -Place the bag in the only compartment open.
    • -When the message OPERATION SUCCESSFUL appears, click OK.
Withdrawals of bags allocated by EmoNet®
  • -With the transfusion request processed by EmoNet® at hand, the nurse should:
    • -Select WITHDRAWAL.
    • -In the window that opens, read the request code with scanner. Hemosafe® will show the identity of the patient and present the allocated bag.
    • -Confirm the selected unit; the menu shows WITHDRAW.
    • -The fridge can be opened; it is only possible to withdraw the allocated bag.
    • -Read the CDM and EMC/BAG/USE on the bag with the scanner. The printer prints the allocations labels (two copies).
    • -Attach the allocation labels – one on the bag and one on the request form.
    • -Use the scanner to read the CDM and EMC/BAG/USE on the bag, the patient’s CAI and the CDMN on the allocation label. The printer prints the delivery form.
Withdrawal of an O Negative unit for an emergency
  • -The nurse selects WITHDRAWAL FOR EMERGENCY:
    • -Hemosafe® only allows access to compartments containing Onegative units for emergencies.
