Transcription start sites of pvsA determined by primer extension (PE). Reverse transcription was performed on total RNA from V. parahaemolyticus WP1 grown either under iron-replete (+Fe) or iron-limiting (−Fe) conditions. The same primer was used to generate a sequence ladder (T, G, C, A) from plasmid pVS1. The relevant sequence is shown to the left of each panel, and the transcription start sites detected are highlighted by arrowheads (see Fig. 2A).
