Strains grown in rich medium (LB) were treated or not with streptonigrin. When the untreated culture reached the stationary phase, the OD600values of the treated and untreated cultures were measured. The values given are the percentages of growth of a streptonigrin-treated culture, using the growth of the untreated control culture as 100%. When indicated, the experiment was also performed in the presence of the iron chelator 2-2′-dipyridyl. The values given correspond to means of three independent experiments ± SEM (ND, not determined).
