β-Galactosidase activity was determined for B. subtilis wild-type, ccpC null mutant, and ccpA null mutant strains carrying fusions to lacZ of segments of the citZ locus (Fig. 1). The organisms were grown at 37°C in TSS medium supplemented with 0.5% glucose and 1.6 mg glutamine per ml, and cells were harvested at several times during exponential growth phase and used for analysis. No growth phase-related regulation was seen. The β-galactosidase activities shown are the averages ± standard deviations of three independent experiments, in each of which samples were removed at multiple time points. ND, not determined.
