However, if muscimol was injected prior to both conditioning and the retention test (Condition M/M) or just prior to conditioning (Condition M/V), rats were not impaired. This means that when the ventral subiculum is disabled before conditioning, the extrahippocampal system can support contextual fear conditioning.
