Without synaptic coupling all PY neurons fired independently. Including excitatory/inhibitory connections synchronized the slow oscillations. During fast run, however, PY neurons remained desynchronized. Oscillations in the neighboring PY cells displayed phase shift (local activity propagation) with sudden phase changes.
