Intravascular-injected fluorescein-labeled Lycopersicon esculentum (tomato) lectin (FITC) identifies blood flow in day E11.5 within the fetal lung mesenchyme surrounded by cells expressing the endothelial cell marker PECAM-1 (Cy3; arrows in A and B). The lectin signal increases in day E12.5 (white arrows in CE) and day E13.5 (white arrows in FH) fetal lung mesenchyme but is not found at epithelial/mesenchymal interface (red arrows in C and D; E). Bar = 50 μm.
