Distribution of defect size. Estimated mean overall defect size was 4.95 cm² (n = 30; range, 0.5 to 24 cm²). Twenty-five patients had an intracranial defect through the skull base bone, and 20 had a dural defect with a mean size of 1.86 cm² (range, 0.2 to 6.2 cm²). One patient had extensive macroadenoma of the central skull base and infratemporal fossa. The resultant defect was estimated to be 24 cm², completely extradural.
