Fig. 3 — Berberine inhibited rat aortic SMC growth. Rat aortic SMCs were grown in 5% FBS, DMEM medium with various concentrations of berberine for 2 days: (A) Cell morphology was microphotographed using an Olympus IX70 phase-contrast microscope. Magnification: 200×. (B) DAPI staining and (C) LDH assay were performed as described in Section 2. (D) DNA synthesis was analyzed by [³H]thymidine incorporation method. (E) Cell number was directly counted by trypan blue dye exclusion method. Data shown in (C), (D) and (E), are presented as mean ± S.D. of at least nine replicates from three separate experiments. (F) Distribution of cell cycle with or without berberine treatment by flow cytometry.
