VLCFA methyl esters (FAMES) dissolved in hexane were analyzed by gas chromatography with an initial temperature of 80°C, increased at 15°C min⁻¹ to 200°C, and then increased at 2°C min⁻¹ to 280°C. C20:0, C22:0, C24:0, and C26:0 FAMES were identified by comparison with retention times of known standards run simultaneously. The concentration of individual VLCFA was expressed as a percent of the total C20:0, C22:0, C24:0, and C26:0 FAMES. Values are means ±1 SE.
