Compared with animals with an intact glucocorticoid secretion (SHAM) animals in which endogenous glucocorticoids have been suppressed by adrenalectomy (ADX) did not differ for the number of dopaminergic neurons (TH-positive cells) in the VTA and in the SN. Similarly, the two groups did not differ for the density of astrocytes (GFAP-positive cells, nb/mm2) in the VTA, in the SN, and in the nucleus accumbens (N.Acc.).
