Farnesylation, but not palmitoylation, is required for C. neoformans Ras1 function during mating. Wild-type MATα (H99) and MATα strains expressing ras1(C203S), ras1(C204S), ras1(C203S, C204S), and ras1(C207A) mutant alleles were each cocultured with MATa KN99a or with MATa ras1(C203S, C204S) on V8 mating medium for 2 weeks.
