Groups of 5 to 10 gp91phox−/− (open circles), NOS2−/− (open squares), or C57BL/6 (closed circles) mice were i.n. inoculated with ∼107 CFU of A. baumannii on day 0, and their clinical scores and rates of survival were monitored for 4 days. Clinical signs of the mice were scored as follows: 0, no abnormal clinical signs; −1, ruffled fur but lively; −2, ruffled fur, activity level slowing, sick; −3, ruffled fur, eyes squeezed shut, hunched, hardly moving, very sick; −4, moribund; −5, dead. The data are compiled from data for two to three independent experiments with similar results.
