Map of Iowa The framework of determinants of physical activity and eating behavior consists of 7 concentric rings categorized from the innermost to the outermost ring as follows: psychobiologic core, cultural, social, enablers of choice, behavioral settings, proximal leverage points, distal leverage points. Each ring consists of specific factors that are separate from those in other rings. The individual’s environment includes the psychobiologic core, and cultural and social segments. Positioned between the individual and the external environments are the enablers of choice. A dotted line that encircles enablers of choice is labeled “Lifestyle.” The remaining 3 outermost rings in the framework represent the extrinsic environment. The first of these 3 is labeled behavioral settings. Proximal leverage points are the next ring, followed by distal leverage points.
