Serum carboxymethyl-lysine (sCML) levels are highly associated with levels of serum methylglyoxal derivatives (sMG). Fasting fresh blood samples obtained from study participants were used for assessment of CML and MG derivatives, by enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay.
