Intrasubject sequence comparison results. Sequence comparisons were performed between clones exhibiting reduced APL susceptibility (≥3-fold FCIC₅₀) and nearest-neighbor APL-sensitive clones. The amino acid changes in the clones with reduced susceptibility to APL are noted above the cartoon envelope for each clone. On the left-hand side of each envelope cartoon is the clone name, as well as the FCIC₅₀ and MPI values. The amino acid changes are noted with one-letter symbols: the amino acid for the sensitive clone is noted first, followed by the envelope position (using HXB2 numbering), followed by the amino acid for the clone with reduced APL susceptibility. The variable regions of the envelope (V1 to V5) are shaded in each cartoon, as well as the membrane-spanning domain (msd).
