Stimuli were two-dimensional Hermite functions (Victor et al., 2006). Cartesian stimuli (left panel) are products of one-dimensional Hermite functions in vertical and horizontal coordinates. Each row contains all the Cartesian stimuli of a given rank. Linear combinations of patterns of the same rank can be constructed to be separable in radial and angular coordinates.
