Effect of porosity in the macroporous layer on the layered CPC structure: (A) flexural strength, and (B) elastic modulus. The layer thickness was fixed at 1.5 mm each. The porosity inside the macroporous layer was changed by varying the mannitol mass fraction in that layer from 0 to 0.7. The strong layer contained 30% fibers but no mannitol. The macroporous layer had no fiber. Both layers used the liquid with 15% chitosan. Each value is mean±sd; n = 6. Line connects data for visual clarity.
