Culture media from HPASMC exposed to 1% fraction of inspired oxygen (FiO2) for 24 h (“conditioned media”) cause proliferation of normoxic HPASMC. Conditioned media were applied to HPASMC, and cells were exposed to 21% O2 for 72 h. Counts were performed before and after hypoxia and are expressed as total number of cells ×103.
