TABLE 3.
Bivariate Linear Regression Models of Acculturation and Sun-Safe Behaviors Among US Latinos (N = 496): Health Information National Trends Survey, 2005
| Sun-Safe Behavior | F | t | P |
| Using sunscreen | 8.88 | 2.98 | .003 |
| Seeking shade | 10.05 | −3.17 | .002 |
| Wearing a hat | 0.00 | 0.06 | .953 |
| Wearing a long-sleeved shirt | 14.60 | −3.82 | <.001 |
| Wearing long pants | 37.50 | −6.12 | <.001 |
Note. Sun-safe behaviors were self-reported and represented practices when outside for 1 hour or more on a warm, sunny day. Behaviors were coded on a 5-point scale (0 = never use, 4 = always use). Acculturation was assessed by an index including interview language, level of comfort with English, age at arrival to the United States, and duration of US residence. Results are from unadjusted linear regression models with each sun-safe behavior as a dependent variable and acculturation as an independent variable.
