Alignment of mature sequences of pseudolysin (1EZM), vibriolysin MCP-02 and vibriolysin E495. The N-terminal sequences of the three mature enzymes were determined using the Edman degradation method. The C termini of MCP-02 and E495 were deduced from the molecular weights (determined using mass spectrometry). The C terminus of pseudolysin shown is the C terminus of the pseudolysin precursor. The catalytic residue is indicated by “*,” the zinc ligands are indicated by “^,” the calcium ligands are indicated by “#,” and other important residues that might be involved in catalysis are indicated by “$.” The secondary structure elements of pseudolysin (top) were shown.
