TUNEL- and CM1-positive cells were quantified in multiple ×60 magnification fields of liver and dorsal root ganglia from each embryo. The mean number of positive cells and SEM per field were determined for each group. Significance was determined by using the nonparametric Kruskal–Wallis ANOVA on ranks. The numbers of embryos used for both TUNEL and CM1 immunoreactivity in each genotype are bcl-x+/*/casp3+/* (23/14); bcl-x−/−/casp3+/* (10/4); bcl-x+/*/casp3−/− (7/4); and bcl-x−/− (5/4). +/*/casp3−/− includes both +/+ and +/− mice. , P < 0.05 compared to bcl-x+/*/casp3+/* mice.
