Color scaling functions for green, fit with a sine wave and with an exponentiated sine wave, solving for the best-fitting exponent. It can be seen that the color-scaling data are better fit with a sinusoid raised to the power of 1.7 than with a sine wave. The fact that the cone contrasts and the responses of cones and of LGN cells vary sinusoidally with color angle suggests the presence of an expansive contrast nonlinearity in the cortical processing.
