Plasma concentrations of insulin (upper panel, closed circles) and glucose (upper panel, open squares) were determined by ELISA. Real-time rtPCR for G6Pase (upper panel, closed circles) and GK (lower panel, closed circles) was performed as described in Materials and Methods, and results were normalized to β-actin. G6Pase (upper panel, open squares) and GK (lower panel, open squares) protein activity was determined spectrophotometrically as described in Materials and Methods. Data are means±SEM (n=4–6) and real-time rtPCR data are reported as fold of control values. *, p<0.05 compared to the absence of ethanol (t = 0 h).
