Experimental setup. Two beakers of blood, one containing labeled tracer, are placed on magnetic stirrers. A small three-way tap allows quick shifts of blood sampling from one beaker to another. Blood was sampled simultaneously by manual withdrawal and by the automated sampler through two separate and identical lines (only one is shown). Catheter lengths were 380 mm from beaker up to the points of manual sampling or automatic detection.
