The localization of mutant COMP in the cartilage ECM is disrupted. Immunohistochemistry (IHC) using a COMP antibody revealed increasingly less interterritorial staining in the extracellular matrix (ECM) between the proliferating columns, which was visible from 3 weeks of age in the growth plates of mice carrying the p.Thr583Met COMP mutation (asterisks).
