Placentation sites were isolated from gestation days 18.5 and 21.5 and from postpartum days 1, 3, 4, and 5. Ten micron cryosections were prepared. Trophoblast cells were identified by cytokeratin immunostaining (Panels A, C, E, G, I, and K) or by in situ hybridization for Prl7b1 mRNA (Panels B, D, F, H, J, and L). Boxed areas in panels with uppercase labels are presented at a higher magnification in panels identified by the corresponding lowercase labels. Scale bars: 1 mm.
