Volume-specific mass transfer coefficient ka for oxygen as a function of the equivalent floc diameter def as a measure of shear stress for DMA in the 100 and 200 L scale compared with a conventional membrane stator. Large floc diameters correspond to low shear stress and small floc diameters to high shear stress. For the DMA, the following configurations are plotted: First, membrane tubing resulting in a surface area of 30 m2/m3 reactor capacity (100 L scale). Second, more membrane tubing wrapped onto bifurcated rotor arms resulting in a volume-specific mass transfer area of 68 m2/m3 (100 L scale) and 60 m2/m3 (200 L scale), respectively.
