Semithin sections showing degeneration of VR and DR in hSOD1-G93A mice. Tissues stained with Toluidine blue were obtained from hSOD1-G93A mice at end stage and their non-transgenic littermates at the same age. A-D was from VR and A1-D1 from DR. Many degenerated nerve fibers were observed in both VR and DR, and density of myelinated nerve fibers were reduced, especially in the VR. Arrows point to bead-like ovoid formed by degradated myelin sheath, and asterisks indicate macrophage-like cells (D and D1).
