A framework for aligning histological sections to a reference atlas. This 3D drawing shows sagittal (left, blue) and dorsal (bottom, blue) projections of the PVH for the reference atlas (see Figs. 2 and 4), along with Atlas Level 25 (red lines with PVH outlined with dashed lines and margin of third ventricle indicated in black; see Figs. 2, 4, and 7). Experimental series of sections can be aligned to these outlines, sequentially, in the Layers panel of a computer graphics application (Fig. 6), after plane of section has been determined (Figs. 2 and 4).
